Our ruffs are obtained only from Inuit families who harvest them as a sustainable resource in the Canadian Arctic.

Fur has been used for centuries by the Inuit and explorers to keep warm. However, fur ruffs on the entrance of a hood keep you warm in another way - by surrounding your face in an air pocket to protect you from the wind and outside air.

    All of our garments have a "tailored" cut; slightly tapered to fit body shape and keep a well fitting look throughout. The amount of contour is more gradual for looser fitting items. For our Women's style, this means more room in the bust & hips and a slightly tapered waist. For our Men's style, this means more room in the shoulders and a slightly tapered waist/hips area.

    How To Measure

    Neck - Measure the fullest part of the neck. Chest/bust - Measure around fullest part of chest, just under the arms. Sleeve - Measure from center of neck to elbow (bent) and down to wrist. Waist - Measure around your natural waist line keeping the tape a bit loose. Inseam- Measure from crotch to ankle bone. Hip - Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of the body at the top of the leg. Head - Measure around the fullest part of your head, just above the ear. Hands - Measure around the widest part of your knuckle, not including the thumb.

    • Shoulder - Measure from base of neck to  first knuckle on hand..

    About the Ruffs

    Wintergreen’s ruffs are obtained only from Inuit families who harvest them as a sustainable resource in Alberta, Canada.

    Fur has been used for centuries by the Inuit and explorers to keep warm. However, fur ruffs on the entrance of a hood keep you warm in another way - by surrounding your face in an air pocket to protect you from the wind and outside air.

    Wintergreen offers Faux Fur to folks who want the same look as fur, though studies have shown that faux fur is not as effective as real fur in creating a protective air pocket. Our synthetic ruffs are a natural brown coloring.

    Our ruffs are attached to your Anorak with a zipper - perfect for easy removal for cleaning, conditioning and more! Please remove ruff before washing the Anorak.

    Caring For Your Ruff

    1. Shake off as much dirt as you can. Brush off the rest.
    2. Gently wipe with soap and water on a damp white rag.
    3. Hang and let air dry.

    It's recommended that conditioning should be done yearly or whenever the hide begins to feel stiff.

    To make Conditioning oil: Mix 1 part vinegar to 2 parts olive oil or Flaxseed oil.

    1. Dab oil onto fur hide with a clean white cloth.
    2. Gently rub oil into hide.
    3. Hang and allow oil to soak in. It may take a few days.
    • Don’t store in plastic.
    • Beware of moths.
    • Condition fur every other year.
    • Clean fur every few months.
    • Keep out of hot and dry places. Some fur storage locations keep their settings at 50º F, with 50% humidity.
    • Repair damages as soon as they are noticed.
    • Fur brushes, fingers, or a wide tooth comb are recommended for gently combing the fur.
    • Keep away from animals.

    Love the coat and the addition of the Coyote fur trim. This is my second winter coat from Wintergreen and I will buy another when the time comes.
