The Expedition Shell Anorak is the wind layer in our layering system. Layer over our Fleece Anorak for colder conditions or wear alone. Made with 3-ply Supplex® nylon shell with DWR (Durable Water Repellency) that sheds wind, moisture and is breathable. Ample design for layering to hold body heat. This anorak has a smooth polyester lining to wick moisture and offers more wind protection. Excellent for very cold climates, less rigorous outdoor activities, or if you just run cold.

The Partial-Zip pullover has a single front hand-warmer pocket with inside zip pocket and draw-cord at base, waist and hood with Velcro® cuffs. Features inside zip chest pockets and our trademark embroidered trims that match our Expedition Fleece Anoraks.

-47F in Western Alaska and doing great!

Just to clarify, this is a SHELL only, and it does not have much insulation. That being said, it does have a second piece of fabric on the inside to create an air barrier from the outer shell, and that works way better than I anticipated. I followed the recommendation on sizing, and the extra room was definitely necessary to get this thing on over all of my insulating layers. The sleeve length is slightly long but not too much, which is GREAT because it fits over bulky gloves and lets you move around without sliding back down the arms when you go to pick something up. All of the cinches work great and keep air from coming in. The hood is a life saver, and I don't even have the fur on it (yet). Oh, it also looks great. That is hard to do for something so functional. To explain the title a little bit, I live in western Alaska in the middle of nowhere. Ambient temperatures can easily get -30F or less, and we get regular coastal winds that drive it down even further. Two days after I got this jacket, I went on a 2 hour trip via snow machine (you might know it as a snow mobile) into -47F weather. Mind you, I was going 50 miles per hour on top of that. The jacket did great at keeping the wind and snow out, leaving my insulating layers to do their job. That trip wouldn't have happened with out this jacket. I also had the plunge mittens with me, and even though this is a review for the jacket I will say that those mittens kept my hands warm in the same temps. Enough said.
