Meet Our Polar Fleece

In 2023, we received notice that the supply of our heavy Polartec® WindPro® fleece fabric used in our Expedition Fleece Anoraks was not going to be available in 2024.

After scouring the market and coming up empty, we decided to take a different approach. A fabric manufacturer based in Quebec, Canada who was willing to create and manufacture a unique 425 gsm weight fleece to meet Wintergreen’s quality benchmark for years to come.

Wintergreen’s NEW Polar Fleece is an expedition-weight fleece, perfect for the extremes of the arctic or daily wear in the city. After trials by our ambassadors, employees and more - We can confidently say that this fleece will be perfect for your snowy adventures.

Dense Warmth Without Bulk

This dense fleece provides warmth without the weight of a bulky garment - keeping you warm and comfortable while moving with your body for any activity in the chilly weather.

I really like it. I’ve been wearing it for all my chores and general stuff around the homestead. As the outer layer in those temps (low teens), it breathes well so I can be doing some physical stuff and not sweat bad. I absolutely love your gear and stand behind it 100%.

Brent Sass - 2022 Iditarod Champion

I love the way it lays on the body. It's very comfortable and seems very wind resistant when I'm out on the trail in Fall & early Winter.

This fleece is so cozy and almost feels so light for how dense it is! It moves nicely with my body when I'm out walking the dogs or doing yardwork.

Fabric FAQ

Technical Specs

GSM stands for grams per square meter, and is a unit of weight that tells you how dense a meter of fabric might be. This contributes to wind resistance and warmth retention.

Yes! This fabric has a 200 Denier Durable Water Repellent, rated for about 25 washes depending on use. Coupled with the fabric density, this makes for a durable, weather resistent fleece.

While fleece can stand high temperatures, we recommend washing our Expedition Fleece Anoraks on cool and tumble drying on low. This is to prevent the cotton trim from shrinking on the garment.

Compared to WindPro®

GSM stands for grams per square meter, and is a unit of weight that tells you how dense a meter of fabric might be. This contributes to wind resistance and warmth retention. While it might appear thinner at first glance, Polar Fleece is 25gsm denser than WindPro®.
