Layne Kennedy has been a friend of Wintergreen Northern Wear since the very beginning. As an internationally known photographer who lives right here in our home State of Minnesota, Layne has captured the lifestyle and culture of the Northwoods for years. He has hosted a winter dogsledding photography workshop at Wintergreen Dogsled Lodge every year for the last 15 years.

Educated in fine art photography, Layne Kennedy is known for his editorial photography that conveys a strong sense of place. His images are featured in magazines worldwide on subjects as varied as Pink Dolphins in the Amazon River to traveling with Polar Inuit in hunters in Greenland by dogsled. His images are featured with the National Geographic Society, Smithsonian, Time-Life, Newsweek, LIFE, Audubon, Outside, GEO, Forbes, Business Week, Terre Sauvage, The Nature Conservancy, Sports Illustrated, and Islands to name a few.

He has contributed to numerous books for several publishers, including the National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy, W.W. Norton, Northword Press, Lerner, Sterling, Knopf, Greystone, Rodale, Insight Guides, Macmillan, Discovery, Sierra Club and Voyageur.

He photographed a book for the National Geographic Society on Great Lake States, and JEWELL'S ON THE WATER-LAKE SUPERIOR’S APOSTLE ISLANDS for Friends Of The Apostles, along with regional books like MINNESOTA-NOW AND THEN for Voyageur Press and PADDLE NORTH CANOEING THE BWCA-QUETICO WILDERNESS and also the popular A HARD WATER WORLD-ICE FISHING AND WHY WE DO IT for the Minnesota Historical Society Press. His image files are diverse ranging in coverage featuring Iceland, Greenland, Cuba, the Great Plains, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Belize, fossils, wolves, dogsledding, Finland, white-water rafting, Australia, Morocco, Wind-power, Amazon River, Grand Canyon, Lake Superior, Spain, Minnesota, portraits, etc. Layne’s images were represented by CORBIS for over twenty years until recently absorbed by GETTY.

His image collection is available for licensing and archival prints are offered through his Minneapolis, Minnesota office. He conducts workshops and photo tours worldwide for the MENTOR SERIES-ULTIMATE PHOTO ADVENTURES, The North House Folk School, PhotoZoneTours, Wintergreen Dogsled Lodge, Mpls Photo Center, and private tours through his office.
